Crisis Pregnancy
Finding out you are pregnant can be wonderful, beautiful, exciting – a precious experience.
It can also be fearful, terrible, awful – a nightmare experience.
One woman can have prepared for it, be in a secure relationship, have all the right circumstances to bring a child into the world, and eagerly await the arrival.
For another, it can be the last thing she expects, an event that cuts across her plans and her dreams for her life, her career, her future. She may feel the time is not right, she has no partner to support her, fearful of the financial strain, fearful of her parents, her friends, her work colleagues.
At Luton Good Counsel many of the women we see have been using one or more forms of contraception. Many are in their 20s or 30s. Some have children already, for some it is a first pregnancy. Some are in high powered jobs, some are mums at home. This is not an issue that just affects teenagers. There is no typical woman who finds herself facing an unplanned pregnancy.
In today’s world, an unplanned pregnancy leads to a “choice” – do I keep it, or not?
The answer does not lie just with the woman. Statistics show that in the first pregnancy the abortion rate is four times greater if the partner is not supportive, and six times greater if he is absent.*
Sadly, the door to abortion stands wide open. It is portrayed as safe, quick, simple, sensible, and practical – and because no one need know, it is very inviting.
But the cost is high- there are always two victims, one dead, one wounded.
The work of LGC is a work of education – and truth – the truth about the nature of abortion, and its far reaching consequences; about the development of the unborn child; about the vocation of motherhood; about the damage done to women- not just for a few days, but for months and years.
But it is truth hand in hand with love and compassion, care and understanding.
